World Tag Team Champions Spirit Squad vs. The Highlanders
September 17, 2006
At Unforgiven, the Spirit Squad will defend the World Tag Team Championship against cousins Rory and Robbie McAllister, The Highlanders.
The Highlanders made their RAW debut only two months ago, and after three consecutive victories they made a challenge to the Spirit Squad for a World Tag Team Championship Match. The match took place on July 24, with the Squad retaining their gold thanks to the strength of their virtual 5-on-2 advantage.
The Highlanders didn’t give up, however. In subsequent weeks, Rory beat Johnny in a singles match and the Highlanders helped Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Eugene even out the 5-on-2 odds and pick up a non-title win over the Squad. Finally, on Aug. 21, The Highlanders, Duggan & Eugene defeated the Squad in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match to give Rory & Robbie two straight non-title wins over the champions.
On Labor Day in Atlanta, the cousins finally earned their rematch by winning a Triple Threat Tag Team Match to become No. 1 Contenders to the gold. Will the Scottish pair finally make good on their second chance at Unforgiven, or will Kenny, Johnny, Mitch, Nicky and Mikey leave Toronto with the gold still around their waists?
