For those wondering, PWInsider.com reports that Brian Gewirtz wrote the line about Irwin for Matt Striker's promo.

It was then submitted to Vince McMahon and later approved to air that night.

This has happened before, they made Cena do it a couple of years ago, they did it with Eddie, the London bombings and now Steve Irwin. It is not going to stop because it is easy heel heat. They'll probably re-hire Nathan Jones and give him a crocodile hunter gimmick before you know it.
