WWE Changes Its Tune Regarding Kurt Angle
After treating Kurt Angle's WWE departure in an optimistic fashion, the company changed its tune in a new message to fans.
According to Keith Lipinski, WWE sent the following via its Mobile Alerts program:
"According to sources, the meeting between WWE Execs & Kurt Angle was heated & confrontational. Angle was an emotional wreck departing WWE Titan Tower."
It remains to be seen why WWE is no longer attempting to protect Kurt Angle's image in its stories about the release.
Here's an update...
It is said that many in the ECW locker room turned on Kurt Angle following his 30 day suspension. Angle accidently dropped Rob Van Dam and blamed it on RVD. Angle was also said to be furious he wasn't booked for Summerslam.
Angle called John Laurinaitis on 8/21, and claimed he was being wheeled around the airport and that his sports massage therapist told him he had a torn abdominal muscle. Vince McMahon ordered Laurinaitis to set up an MRI for Angle, and apparently made the decision then and there to terminate Angle.
The 8/25 meeting at Titan Towers involved Angle, his manager (and former bodybuilder Dave Hawk), McMahon and Laurinaitis. WWE paid Angle an undisclosed amount of money, and released him from his contract. It is unclear if Angle is subject to the standard 90 day no complete clause, as terms of his release have not been made known. Typically, WWE pays a released wrestler during the 90 days, and in the case of Angle, that would amount to about $250,000.
