ENJOY!
As most of you know, the legend we know as Ric Flair has retired. Here are some omments from some of our readers. More will be included next week. Thank you for the decades of memories Ric :)
By Frozen.Ice on Tue Apr 01, 2008
Deep down, Ric Flair knew this day would come. Mr. McMahon gave him a “win or retire” ultimatum more than four months ago, but the “Nature Boy” didn’t need a reminder to realize his in-ring career was coming to an end. And though tears streamed down his cheeks as he said farewell to the millions of fans he entertained for more than 35 years, Flair didn’t feel any agony in defeat to Shawn Michaels tonight at WrestleMania XXIV. After all, how fitting it is that the greatest wrestler of all time ends his career on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Still, that didn’t prevent a hushed silence formed at the Citrus Bowl after Michaels stunned Flair with Sweet Chin Music to the jaw and the Nature Boy wasn’t able to rise before the three-count. More than 70,000 of our screaming fans seemed amazed because they had just witnessed history – the end of a legendary career.
At one point, thousands of jaws dropped when Flair trapped Michaels in his trademark Figure-Four Leglock and HBK screamed, seemingly moments away from tapping out.
But ultimately, Michaels outlasted Flair. He gave Flair what he wanted – his very best in the form of Sweet Chin Music. At first, HBK couldn't bring himself to unleash Sweet Chin Music and it nearly cost him the match. But he realized during his second and third opportunity that he had to pull the trigger. Flair wanted it that way – no sympathy, no remorse. With tears in his eyes, Flair implored HBK. And with a whisper of "I'm sorry ... I love you," Michaels turned out the lights on Flair's legendary career.
The Citrus Bowl erupted. Meanwhile, Superstars – Flair rivals and allies, who watched the battle from the locker room, gave him a standing ovation. Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat and Barry Windham – past Flair rivals who were now dear friends saluted him. Flair blew kisses to his wife and children seated in the front row, and even hardened warriors and friends like Arn Anderson and Triple H in the back couldn’t fight back their tears.
Still, Flair will always be The Man. Just look at the champions he has mentored and inspired – Triple H, Michaels, Batista and Randy Orton, to name a few. And DX, Evolution, the New World Order, and who could forget Flair’s Four Horsemen. The Nature Boy’s legacy lives on. Diamonds are forever, and so is Ric Flair.

And what can I say about Flair/Michaels that hasn't already been said? What an emotional match. I acutally am looking forward to seeing Taker/Edge again because maybe I'm underrating it do to being so emotionally drained after Flair's sendoff. Flair's promo before the match consisted of him saying "To be the man..." and then walking away. I wondered why he didn't say more, but as I thought about it, I figured he probably would've had a hard time holding it together for a long winded promo. His entrance was a sight to behold. The match itself was far and away match of the night. Michaels really impressed me with his psychology and the spots he pulled off. Flair pulled out stuff I haven't seen him use in a long while(the delayed Vertical Suplex comes to mind). At the end when Flair was teary eyed and told Michaels "C'mon!", I almost lost it. The "I'm sorry, I love you" by Michaels was an incredible moment. I also thought it was a really nice touch that the cameras followed Flair all the way back up the ramp.
I read earlier today that Flair was offered the main event spot and turned it down. The idea that was pitched by a creative team member according to the report was that Flair would've left his boots in the middle of the ring and a spotlight would've been placed on them as the show ended. I think that would've been an incredible ending, but Flair stated that the championships were the most important thing and should close the show. Even if you don't like Ric Flair, you have to respect the fact that he's a true team player to the end.
Thanks for the memories, Ric. Your greatness is likely to never be duplicated. And some credit to Shawn Michaels for helping the greatest wrestler of all time put on his last classic.

Accident at Wrestlemania 24
ORLANDO, Fla. -- More than 40 people were hurt when fireworks and cables landed on the crowd packed in the Citrus Bowl for WrestleMania on Sunday night, according to the Orlando Fire Department. During the last fireworks event of the show, eyewitnesses said, fireworks plunged into the crowd and exploded, injuring 45. At least three people were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with burns. Firefighters with the Orlando Fire Department said the fans who were taken to ORMC weren't seriously hurt, but some of the victims said for them the WWE's reputation is now in bad shape. Tens of thousands of wrestling fans flocked to WrestleMania for the experience of a lifetime, but over 40 fans left with ice packs on their necks and three left in an ambulance. "It felt like a whip. I have a welt on my neck," said victim Barbara Vetere. "Like a baseball bat hit me. It was horrible. Horrible." A pyrotechnics malfunction sent fireworks and hot cables flying into crowded stands during the final wrestling match. "You can see the marks on a few people where hot wires crossed and fireworks touched them," said Asst. Chief Greg Hoggatt, of the Orlando Fire Department. Firefighters said they acted quickly, but fans told a different story. "We had to sit up in the bleachers and wait for a paramedic to come. They didn't really examine us. And we had to walk all the way down to first aid and had to ask for a bag of ice just to put on our head," Vetere added. Channel 9 placed a call to the WWE to ask them how the accident could happen. The call was not immediately returned.

WWE Pulling Ric Flair Celebration Off Youtube
Videos of handheld camera footage of everything that took place after Raw went off the air on Monday was available on YouTube, but WWE had the video pulled due to a copyright claim from the company. The footage showed Undertaker and Vince McMahon walking to the ring at separate times to pay tribute to Flair. When Taker made his entrance, all the wrestlers got on separate sides so that he could make his way. Taker hugged Flair and kneeled before him.
Angle Says Fight With Randy Couture Is Signed & More
Source: KHTK 1140AM (Sacramento)
Kurt Angle was a guest this week on the Showgram, hosted by Jim Kozimor and Henry Turner on KHTK Sports 1140AM in Sacramento, California. Here are the wrestling-related highlights:
-- Angle did not watch WrestleMania 24 but he is glad Ric Flair was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and respects Flair for all he has done and accomplished.
-- Angle said he believes TNA will be in a ratings war with the WWE within two to three years, much like it was during the late-'90s when it was WWE and WCW. He said TNA has come a long way in five years and has gone further than the WWE did in their first five years.
-- Angle said TNA has been great to him. They're very flexible and supportive in allowing him to try different things such as movies, TV shows and training for an MMA fight with Randy Couture in the fall.
-- Angle said he and Couture have both signed with a promotion but won't say who. Angle said they will be looking for more promoters to help make the event something big and special. Angle said the fight would more than likely take place in California but did not mention a city.
-- Angle is training twice per week and will intensify his training program as the fight gets closer
-- Angle said his neck is 100 percent and is glad he didn't do the fusion surgery.
-- Angle said he talked to UFC's Dana White two weeks after signing with TNA. Angle said White would only sign him to a deal if he didn't wrestle for TNA. Angle said he couldn't do it and wanted to be loyal to TNA as TNA was flexible and supportive in other ventures Angle wanted to pursue.
-- Angle said he would fight Brock Lesner, but only if the money was right as they are very good friends.
-- Angle said that Sting told him after one of their matches that Sting said Angle was the best wrestler he has ever faced.
WWE Wrestlers Flip Out At Kurt Angle In Orlando
Credit: ProWrestling.net
TNA Mobile sent out an alert to subscribers today to announce that some scenes were filmed for Kurt Angle’s upcoming reality/documentary style project in Orlando over the weekened. PWTorch.com reports that a film crew followed Angle into the TGI Friday’s restaurant in Orlando where wrestlers from both WWE and TNA were hanging out before WrestleMania 24.
Some WWE wrestlers starting panicking and flipping out because they didn’t want to be show on camera with TNA guys, especially after Robbie from the Highlanders was sent home after being shown on Impact. The fact that Kurt Angle didn't leave WWE on good terms certainly didn't ease their minds either.
TNA also sent out a text message saying that Lockdown is on track to be their largest attended show in company history.
Trish Stratus Doesn't Like How WWE Divas Are Being Used

Thanks to Adam Lebow for sending in the following:
During their Wrestlemania recap show that airs on Fight Network Radio, The LAW aired a clip of an interview that they taped for next week with Trish Stratus where she gives her thoughts to co-host Jason Agnew about the Bunnymania match that happened on Sunday. The following is a transcript of the brief clip they played as a teaser for next weeks show which is at 11pm on CFRB 1010 Toronto and other Fight Network Radio affiliate stations.
*****************
Jason Agnew: You know, I am looking at someone like Beth Phenoix, who is really a good in-ring worker and is in a Playboy Mania match at Wrestlemania, any thoughts on that because I think you and her in a match would be much more entertaining than what they are doing right now.
Trish Stratus: Ya, well what is it called, Bunny Mania?
Jason Agnew: Ya
Trish Stratus: I have always been this way, I think there is a place for it because particularly there is a deal with playboy so there is obviously a place for it, there always will be, but I really think they could always provide the other additional idea, that is kind of what I did, I had the women's storyline going for the women's championship and then it's like Beth is the champion and there is no women's championship match, so I just... boo hoo, I don't like it. I don't like it one bit Jason.
Trish Returns To Wrestling (PICTURES & VIDEO)
Former WWE Women's Champion Trish Stratus wrestled a match in Iceland last night. She defeated Icelandic Wrestling Association Women’s champion Svana Hronn Johannsdottir in a best-of-3-falls match. The contest was actually not professional wrestling, but something called "glima wrestling". Glima wrestling is held on a wooden floor (not in a ring) and involves mostly takedowns. The match was filmed for Trish's new television show, "Stratusphere". On the show, Trish tours world learning more about the sport of wrestling.
You can check out a photos of Trish and Icelandic Women’s Glima Champion Svana Hronn Johannsdottir by clicking here http://www.glima.is/default.asp . A video clip of the whole match is also available online by clicking here http://vefmidlar.visir.is/sources/e61ecab0-90d4-466e-9229-bb8374d1b09d.asx . The entire match and an interview with Trish begins roughly seven minutes and 30 seconds into the video, which is taken from the Icelandic local news.
Trish arrived in Iceland on Sunday and has been taking in all the regular tourist activities, including the Golden circle and the Blue Lagoon. Despite the fact that WWE is not on Icelandic television and pro wrestling isn't that popular in the country, Trish still received a lot of media attention and has been introduced as the best female pro wrestler in the United States.
