Column Of The Week

Linda's Thoughts - SS/Raw and Jericho
Date Added: November 22, 2007
Story By: Linda Robin

There is so much that I want to talk about tonight. First there’s the Survivor Series, then Raw and then the huge return of Chris Jericho. I cannot wait to tell you my thoughts on both shows and how I felt about the return of one my favorite wrestlers. I don’t want to make this a five page column, so let me give you my speedy yet interesting thoughts about the pay per view, Raw and then on to Y2J. By the way I didn’t exactly shine with my pay per view predictions, but then again I wasn’t expecting too. I guess that is why I handled the humiliation as well as I did. Okay let me get right to the Survivor Series.

I really did enjoy Sunday’s show; it gets thumbs up from me. I’ll tell you what match really surprised me and impressed me. Wait for it, okay I’ll tell you. It was the opening match with CM Punk vs. Miz vs. John Morrison. In my opinion this was one of the better if not THE best ECW match on a pay per view in a long time. Punk, Morrison and Miz all did a great job in the ring, and having this match open the show was one very smart move. It was a terrific way to set the tone for what was to come. The 10 Divas Tag Team match turned out okay, I can’t complain about what I saw. And even though Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly vs. Cade and Murdoch came off as nothing more than a Raw match it still came off well. The only match that was worse than I expected it to be was Hornswoggle vs. Khali.

Now don’t get me wrong, I figured the match would be lame, but it was beyond that and even with Finlay helping Hornswoggle, the ending came off very flat. This segment won WORST of the night. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that I was disappointed that Shawn Michaels didn’t win Sunday night. I really thought this was going to be his night, and in a way even though he lost it was still HIS match. I liked the match but I wasn’t in love with it. It seemed like Shawn was carrying the majority of the match. These guys have had some hot matches; Sunday’s wasn’t one of them. Randy Orton worked a hard match, yet something was missing as far as Orton was concerned. This was a good match, just not an outstanding one, and believe me it had nothing to do with Shawn losing and me losing another one of my predictions. The HIAC main event match was good but until the end it was more like a non gimmick match.

Batista killed himself out there and I was so pleased when Taker tomb-stoned Batista on the steel steps, oh yeah I loved that part. And the backdrop on those steps that Batista received from Taker was another awesome spot. As the end of the match got closer things definitely started to pick up. And it was nice having Edge come back and take out his frustrations on Taker which gave Batista the win. I’m glad to have Edge back and I am starting to think that next month Armageddon will have a Triple Threat match with Edge vs. Batista vs. Taker, and that could be one hell of a main event. Okay my match of the night was the Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match. I was disappointed that Matt Hardy wasn’t in it, but it all turned out so well and everyone involved did a nice job. I was thoroughly pleased with each participant in this match and even happier with the way Triple H and Jeff Hardy worked so well together by taking out and pinning Umaga. This was just one awesome match and as I said this was a good show and I was very happy that I ordered it.

Raw just like the Survivor Series came off well. There was a lot that I liked. For instance the opening with Shawn Michaels demanding a rematch from Randy Orton, but instead of Orton responding, Mr. Kennedy…..Kennedy came out, did some trash talking and then it was ON. Shawn and Mr. Kennedy had one hell of a brawl. This was a super opening and Mr. Kennedy finally had a strong anti HBK promo. This is going to be a cool feud and this feud will hopefully get something really good out of Mr. Kennedy. Santino Marella vs. Jerry The King Lawler was an okay match but of course it was his mic work after the match that was a riot. The over grown spoiled brat again called Lawler Jerry Stupid Lawler and then he had me laughing even more when he grabbed JR’s hat and told JR that he was going to beat his friend like a Government dog. When Marella got back into the ring he started mocking Lawler by talking “puppies.” I’m sorry but this guy is just so good when it comes to making me laugh.

Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga turned out to be a damn good match. I’m a Jeff Hardy fan, and it sure looks like he’s getting a nice big push, I just hope Hardy stays clean and WWE doesn’t have to suspend him anymore. So far he’s doing a damn good job since he returned a few months ago, and I don’t want to see anything go wrong. Okay so I liked the match and then my friend Snitzky runs in and goes after Hardy. Well last week I said he’s my snack break. I guess my snack break ended as soon as Hunter ran in and came to Jeff’s rescue. The last thing that I want to see is a Triple H/Snitzky feud; oh yes the very last thing that I want to see. But I couldn’t get over how well the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., crowd reacted to Hunter’s run in. The crowd was really into it, and so was I. I guess for now I will have no choice but to sit down and watch Snitzky. I just hope this feud is short, very short. Hey and I liked the next match with Melina and Jillian vs. Mickie and Maria. I am so glad that Mickie is being used again and in a good way and not as a jobber. She is back to looking like a credible contender for the women’s title.

When Vince set up Hornswoggle vs. Carlito I told my husband this is bad for Carlito, this is Vince’s way of punishing Carlito. So when they were running around the ring I wasn’t exactly eating this one up. But, when Finlay came out and he took Carlito out I was ecstatic. My poor husband got scared when I started yelling “all right this is going to be a fantastic feud, now you’re talking.” It’s during times like that that I wonder how my husband puts up with me. Anyway bring on that Carlito vs. Finlay feud, bring it on. So everything that I talked about here I liked, what I didn’t like was the Cody Rhodes vs. Holly match. The night before they are working as a tag team, Monday night they are back to working against each other, and we are back with Rhodes MUST earn Holly’s respect. This match left me cold, but Rhodes finally beat Hardcore Holly so I bet next week the two will be going steady with each other.

Okay I saved the best for last. Chris Jericho returned and I was giddy just sitting there and watching him. He looked absolutely wonderful. He looked completely rested and if it’s possible a lot younger than he did when he left. I am so glad that he’s back. But I want to be honest with you, and maybe it’s because I was there live when Jericho debuted in the WWF back in August of 1999. Monday’s appearance didn’t quite come close to that August night. You could definitely tell Monday night that Chris was happy to be there and I believe his enthusiasm on the mic was as real as it gets but I needed more. And again I think part of it was Randy Orton. I have been extremely happy with Orton as champion, but he seems to have lost something. It’s like he is doing what’s expected of him but not going that extra mile. I also felt this way Sunday night in his match against HBK. Randy needs to get some fire back in his promos. When Jericho said he’s there to save the fans from his boring personality he was telling the truth. Jericho was giving his all Monday night, and Randy was just listening. I would love to have seen an animated Orton, not the Orton that was just standing there. But I’m happy as hell to have Y2J back and I really do look forward to the Orton/Jericho feud.
